Fred Roald Clausen
Fred Roald Clausen was born July 31, 1932 in Flensburg, Germany, to parents Oskar & Marie Clausen. Fred passed away May 19, 2019.
The family (Oskar, Marie, Fred and twin brothers Herbert and Robert) lived in Flensburg, Germany. They were there during those difficult war years, Fred compelled to go off to another country, Austria, in uniform, to boot camp at age 9. In his early years, Fred’s father being away in the war, Fred assumed responsibility for his family. He was an extremely diligent, hard worker. While there, at age 14, Fred made his choice to follow Jesus and was faithful to that commitment to the very end of his life, finding much joy in doing so.
The family left Germany, emigrating to Camrose, Alberta, Canada in 1951 where Fred worked as a house painter, supporting the Clausen family as they adjusted to their new homeland.
Eventually the Clausen family moved to Vernon, BC where he met Lois Dunnett of Kelowna, BC. They were married in June 1955. Soon after, they followed Lois’ family to California for a few years, where son Mark was born. In 1959 they returned to Vernon where Fred worked as an auto body mechanic for a local car dealership and Lois was an elementary school teacher. Both daughter Carol Lyn and son Michael were born in Vernon during this time. After several cold winters in Vernon, they moved back to California, where he lived for the next 39 years til 2001. Fred lived in a total of 14 places, 10 of which were in California.
He met Ruth Mose of Fort Frances and they were married September 18, 2001. They bought a small home on Rainy Lake, remodelled, landscaped, and enjoyed living there at the lake until he passed away. Everyone Fred was in contact with remembers him as a very kind, loving man, having a great sense of humor, always thinking of others. In his last days in hospital, Fred was still wanting to share even his food trays with anyone who visited.
He was predeceased by his parents Oskar and Marie Clausen, first wife Lois Clausen, brothers Robert of Duncan, BC and Herbert of Red Bluff, CA.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Clausen of Fort Frances, ON, son Mark (Debra) of Mammoth Lakes, CA, daughter Carol Lyn of Morgan Hill, CA, son Michael (Lesa) of Turlock, CA, grandchildren Stefan of Encinitas, CA, Matthew of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Tessa Jaime (Joshua) of Carlsbad, CA, Samuel (Alex) of Turlock, CA (great grandkids Amelia and Finnick), Casey Heitzke (Mike) of Nashville, TN, (great grandkids Charlie and Gunnar), Chloe Lusher (Nathan) of Turlock CA, (great grandchild James).
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 3, 2019 at Northridge Funeral Home at 11:00 AM.
Interment in Emo Cemetery.

If desired, donations may be made to Riverside Foundation (Palliative Care), c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.

Dear Family, Our sincere condolences! The first Sunday meeting we went in America was at Fred & Lois's in Almaden San Jose. Fred always remain warm, caring, friendly and gentle in our hearts. I remember when we introduced our new-born daughter to him he said "Oh~ we pronounce that name Unie" with his usual grin. He was a gentleman.

Dear Ruth. Our sympathy and love to you at this sad time. I remember when I asked you about Red. You said ‘if I had a list of qualities I wanted in a husband, the list would all be checked off!’. And your eyes told me the same. My mom said ‘he is a kind and thoughtful man. I like him!’ So thankful you and Fred got together and made a home. Love you.
