Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Deidre Strain on Saturday January 19, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Deidre was born July 12, 1936 in Fort Frances to Ernie and Margaret (Locking) Lichtenstein.

She was united in marriage to Gordon (Bud) Strain on March 5, 1954. Together they happily raised their four children in the north end.

Deidre and Bud enjoyed many years of camping at Lake of the Woods Provincial Park as well as horsemanship with the Whispering Pines Saddle Club and Borderland Quarter Horse Association where they made many life long friends. After raising her children and providing childcare for numerous families, Deidre went to work for the Red Cross as a homemaker where she continued to provide compassionate care for many. She was also an Avon rep for many years.

In her spare time Deidre loved to fish with her family and was usually the luckiest, catching the biggest and the most. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan cheering them on at hockey, basketball, soccer and dance recitals with great pride.

She will be greatly missed by her children David (Terril) Strain, Cindy (John) Krukoski, Michael (Kim) Strain, Lori (Lance) Brown; grandchildren Jeremy, Josh, Mary and Sarah Strain, Jamie (Diana) Krukoski, Lauren (Steve) Hanson, Holly (James) Kaemingh, Miranda (Rob) Paterson, Carlee (Mason) Gallinger; and great-grandchildren Lilly, Amellia, Sawyer, Avis, Ryder and Sylas.

She is also survived by her sister Doris Kawulia; sisters-in-law Phyllis Dalseg ,Hazel Strain, and Helen Lichtenstein; brother-in-law Morgan Hildebrand; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The care Mom received from Dr. Moorhouse and Dr. Halverson will always be remembered.

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon(Bud); her parents Ernie and Margaret Lichtenstein; mother and father in-law Geneva and Albert Eide; sister Valerie McClelland; brother Bill Lichtenstein; sister in-law Irma Hildebrand; brothers-in-law Butch Kawulia, Jack McClelland, Jack Dalseg, Walter Strain and Bill Strain; nephews John Novak and Dennis Dalseg; and nieces Willa Novak and Cathy Hamel.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service followed by a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimers Society C/O Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, Ontario P0W 1E0
